Architectural project featuring Kriskadecor, inspired by “It’s a Small World”

Kriskadecor Outdoor Architectural Solutions has clad the facade of Disney Glamour, inaugurated in March 2025 within Disney Village at Disneyland Paris. Developed with the KDO Fixed System, the project reinterprets the visual universe of “it’s a small world”, one of the resort’s most iconic attractions and an enduring work by artist Mary Blair, whose bold color language and graphic approach have shaped Disney’s aesthetic identity for generations. Located in an area accessible year-round, the new store has quickly become a visual landmark within the retail and leisure district, reinforcing the character of its surroundings and enriching the visitor experience with an instantly recognizable and timeless aesthetic.

The design draws from Blair’s hallmark visual style: geometric compositions, a vibrant chromatic palette, and an abstracted graphic treatment of global architecture distilled into simple, universal forms. At Disney Glamour, Kriskadecor’s aluminum chains recreate a pattern inspired by Blair’s collage-like approach, evoking temples, minarets and international silhouettes reminiscent of the celebrated facade of “it’s a small world”. The composition employs eight RAL colors, carefully selected to honor Blair’s artistic language, bright whites, deep blues and warm golds, giving the facade a dynamic, ever-changing appearance as it interacts with natural light throughout the day.

The system: technical precision with outdoor performance

Measuring 48.10 ft wide and 19.03 ft (927.85 sq ft), the façade integrates seamlessly into the structural and visual framework of Disney Village. The epoxy-coated aluminum chains create a lightweight, visually striking volume that contrasts with the surrounding brick facades, adding texture, color and strong architectural presence. From a technical perspective, the KDO Fixed System is engineered to cover large exterior surfaces with tensioned aluminum chains. Each cladding solution is fully customizable in size, form and color, allowing the reproduction of images, patterns and logotypes thanks to proprietary technology and a dynamic RAL palette tested under 10,000 hours of solar exposure, following an adaptation of the UNE-EN ISO 11341:2005 standard.

Externally, the facade appears as a solid and continuous surface that provides privacy; internally, the transparency of the chain links ensures full outward visibility and promotes natural ventilation. The system also reduces direct solar heat gain, improving the building’s thermal comfort. Designed and tested to withstand static wind pressures exceeding 130 mph, the system ensures long-term safety and durability. Its lightweight, flexible nature enables efficient integration into a wide variety of architectural contexts, simplifying both installation and maintenance.

Materiality, efficiency and sustainability

Both chains and profiles are made from aluminum, a lightweight, corrosion-resistant and fully recyclable material that aligns with contemporary sustainability principles in architecture and construction. An optimized packaging system minimizes waste and reduces logistical impact by enabling transport in compact, easy-to-handle boxes, often manageable by a single person. This approach also speeds up on-site installation, streamlining the entire assembly process.
