Art | City: Logroño, Spain | Designed by: Carlos Aires
"Estado de sitio", curated by Blanca de la Torre and Fernando Gómez de la Cuesta and exhibited at the Sala Amós Salvador in Logroño, "explores the collision of stories at a time when states of exception and alarm have placed us in a singular conjuncture where the visual arts are revealed as an ideal strategy to show their mechanisms of resistance”.
Based on this premise, a group of artists has been selected, including Carlos Aires, who has used Kriskadecor's aluminium chains to reproduce a portrait of the emeritus king Juan Carlos I, made by the Spanish designer José María Cruz Novillo for the five thousand pesetas bills.
"Welcome", 6.5 meters high and 4.50 wide, leaves the reading open, alluding to more metaphorical issues such as the innocuous transfer from one era to another and to the overcoming of the icons that represent history, demolition, or the emptying of the content of those monument-images that have tried to fix narratives and stories emanating from power.
