Kriskadecor project reinvents Andorra's urban landscape with a Japanese-inspired façade

Ginza 41, which opened its doors in 2016 on the second floor of Avenida Meritxell 65, moved to new premises on the first floor due to the growing demand from customers and neighbors. The challenge was to create a modern and innovative space that maintained the original essence of the restaurant, incorporating part of the furniture and decorative elements recognized by the most loyal customers.

A striking façade

The new location offered the opportunity to design a striking façade that would capture the attention of passersby and make the restaurant a landmark on one of Andorra’s busiest streets. The developers shared this vision, seeking a visually striking solution that, in their own words, “no one had ever seen before in Andorra.” In addition, one of the main challenges was to integrate the four windows of the hotel above the restaurant, ensuring proper ventilation without compromising the aesthetics of the whole.

To overcome these challenges, Kriskadecor’s KDO Fixed System was chosen. In the words of designer Àfrica Sabé, “The idea of integrating aluminum chains into the façade came from the imaginary of traditional chain curtains, those that evoke the image of an old-fashioned family home. . These chains arouse memories of vacations, good food and tranquility. We wanted to reproduce those feelings, while connecting with the image of Japan, bringing forward the experience that will be lived inside the restaurant.”

The new façade of Ginza 41, measuring 45 feet wide and 11 feet high, has become an essential element of its identity. It marks the entrance, acts as a meeting point and has established itself as a visual landmark in the area. “Everyone who passes by stops for a moment to observe it. Time seems to stand still as they wonder what experience awaits them inside,” says Sabé.

The double skin incorporates a high-definition Japanese-inspired image, created with 15 RAL colors that enhance its visual appeal. The epoxy coating on the chains blends seamlessly with the wood, bringing warmth to a metal element that blends harmoniously into its surroundings. This balance between materials reinforces the welcoming and distinctive character of the project, highlighting its unique design.

The creative process was a collaborative effort between the design studio, Kriskadecor and Auxini, achieving a visually appealing and functional solution that enhances the visibility of the restaurant, creating a memorable experience for both customers and passersby.
