Project with aluminum chains covering the atrium that connects the seven floors.
The Hotel Vincci Gala is located in an old stately building dating back to 1914 on Ronda Sant Pere in Barcelona. Located in a quiet area of the Ensanche, near the old town, it is surrounded by large historic buildings in neoclassical style, which gives it a sophisticated and timeless air.
The color gold is the main protagonist of the Hotel Vincci Gala, appearing in different shades and applications both on the exterior and interior of the building. This gold is combined with organic shapes and contrasts between dark and light, elements inspired by the work of Salvador Dalí. The predominance of metal, in contrast to the original stone and marble of the architecture, brings a sense of modernity and dynamism, creating a balance between respect for the building’s history and contemporary innovations.
The atrium as the center of the design
The heart of the design is the atrium of lights, which connects the seven floors of the building and allows natural light to enter the interior, illuminating the first floor lobby. Like a large veil, gold-colored aluminum chains hang in front of the railings and the edges of the false ceilings. These chains, with a dark line pattern inspired by the organic forms of Dalí’s work, emphasize the vertical direction of the space and visually merge the different sections into one large, fluid space.
The railing, made of laminated glass and topped by a U-shaped profile in frosted stainless steel, was flush with the edges of the slabs, providing a perfect flat bottom for the veil of chains. Lines of LEDs integrated into the handrails bathe each flight of chains in grazing light, creating a soft, warm ambience. This enormous veil not only gives character to the atrium and lobby, but also extends to all the spaces it crosses, creating a visually harmonious environment.
