Kriskadecor project that forges a deep connection between the sea and the heart of the neighborhood through the light that illuminates the chains.
Kriskadecor has had the pleasure of participating in the festival of light arts Llum BCN 2024, held in the vibrant neighborhood of Poblenou, in Barcelona. In this edition of the festival, Kriskadecor’s collaboration focused on the installation “The sea inside the city”, an innovative project carried out by three 4th year interior design students from LCI Barcelona. Using the Feel Free system by estudi{H}ac, the proposal managed to capture the essence of the transformative relationship between the sea and the city through a unique use of light and aluminum chains, creating an immersive experience deeply connected to the identity of the neighborhood.

Kriskadecor in Llum BCN 2024: The sea inside the city
The concept behind this installation lies in the historical and cultural importance of the sea in Barcelona. For decades, life on the beach has been an essential component of local culture and one of the most distinctive elements of the city’s urban identity. From its origins as an industrial dumping ground to its transformation into an international leisure hub, Barcelona’s sea has witnessed enormous social, cultural and political changes, becoming a space of social cohesion, but also a catalyst for citizen protests.
To express this transformative link between the sea and the neighborhood, the designers used Feel Free, an innovative self-supporting system that creates a unique atmosphere without the need for support or ceiling or wall fixings. The light, projected on the aluminum chains, generated visual effects that replicated the fluidity and dynamism of the sea, creating a striking visual journey. It also established an emotional connection with the urban environment, inviting the public to reflect on the evolution of Barcelona and its relationship with the sea over time.

Under the tutelage of Edgar Domínguez, the students involved were Pol Vallès, Anna Canals, Laia Huguet, Abril Pérez Sanders, Aida Ponce, Ariadna Callol, Eva Shulyak, Valentina Peña, Júlia Gil, Laura Beltrán, Lorena Fernández, Manel Fors, Maria Civico, Marina Martínez, Nuria Crespo, Paola Mantovani, Paula Giner, Rodrigo Plano, Sara Bando, Valentina Herrera and Xiyang Ye.
