Kriskadecor project evoking the energy of the aeronautical world
LOT Polish Airlines has officially opened its first international business lounge at Chicago O’Hare International Airport, offering a bold intersection of national identity, material storytelling, and contemporary hospitality design. Situated in the newly expanded Terminal 5 head-house near Gate M18, the 617-square-meter lounge is both a travel amenity and a cultural destination—one that reflects the airline’s Polish roots and its global aspirations.
Designed with a deep sensitivity to cultural context, the lounge draws heavily from Poland’s landscape, material legacy, and modern design language. The material palette is deliberate and evocative: deep navy tones channel LOT’s corporate branding, while warm copper finishes pay homage to Poland’s industrial heritage and role as Europe’s leading copper producer. Throughout the lounge, these elements offer more than aesthetic appeal—they construct a narrative of place and pride.
A cultural and material narrative
At the heart of the main space, a custom ceiling solution from Kriskadecor adds a striking sculptural touch. Made up of aluminium chains, the piece evokes the energy of the aeronautical world and brings a touch of kinetic art to the airport’s structured environment.
Thanks to the versatility of the aluminium chains, the design adapts to the curved geometry of the ceilings and walls, generating smooth and enveloping transitions that contrast with the usual orthogonality of airports. The result is an elegant and welcoming environment, which connects with the traveller’s emotions and turns the passage through the lounge into a memorable experience.
