The kinetic double skin of the Oritia & Boreas building, a company specialising in wind engineering, incorporates the KDO Kinetic System, an innovative architectural solution that uses aluminium chains to respond to the natural movement of the wind. This transforms what was once a static structure into a living, constantly shifting surface that draws attention and adds functional value to the building.

Positioned in front of a 28-metre-wide by 2.2-metre-high window, the system creates an optical illusion of metallic fabric, generating a hypnotic, undulating pattern that dynamically responds to the wind’s speed and direction. This effect is achieved through horizontal rings placed at varying heights, carefully tailored to the shape and dimensions of the project.

The aluminium chains, customised in satin silver and signal blue (RAL 5005), combine modern aesthetics with practical functionality. Thanks to in-house technology and a dynamic palette of RAL colours tested under solar exposure, this system allows for full customisation, including the reproduction of patterns, logos, and even high-definition images.

Its lightweight nature enables large surfaces to be clad without compromising the structural integrity of the building, while the transparency of the chain links filters sunlight, creating a play of light and shadow that enriches the interior environment. From the exterior, the chains present a solid appearance that acts as a visual screen, ensuring privacy. From the interior, they allow for complete visibility, adding depth and texture to the space without sacrificing the connection to the surroundings.

The sound of the chains is subtle, producing a faint, barely audible chime. Inside, the atmosphere remains calm and pleasant, without disrupting concentration or the working environment.
