Aluminum chain project for the shop windows of the historic Alsterhaus shopping mall
KaDeWe Group relied on our aluminum chains to dress the windows of its three emblematic department stores: Kaufhaus des Westens in Berlin, Oberpollinger in Munich and, finally, Alsterhaus in Hamburg.
In the latter case, the project took on a special dimension because of the historical weight of the building. The Alsterhaus department store has existed in its present form since 1912, when it was known as the Hermann Tietz department store. From the very beginning, they captivated Hamburgers with their impressive lighting and wide range of products. Even after adopting the name Alsterhaus in 1936, they kept their high quality standards intact. Fortunately, the building suffered little damage during World War II, preserving much of its original structure.
Today, with 258 sq ft, Alsterhaus combines historic architecture and contemporary design in an exclusive setting. Kriskadecor’s intervention with chains dialogued with this legacy, providing a contemporary language without losing respect for the history of the site.
Versatility and prominence in retail
The objective was clear: to create an eye-catching setting, transmit energy and reinforce the exclusive character of each establishment. In the case of Alsterhaus, a powerful and sophisticated chromatic combination was chosen, with shades of passion red, orange, brown and gold, all in satin finish. The interaction between these colors and the light generated a vibrant effect that transformed the shop window into a real visual attraction.
In the retail sector, the ability to attract attention in a matter of seconds is essential. Aluminum chains make it possible to create dynamic volumes and compositions that turn any window display into a striking visual experience. Their lightness and versatility facilitate the design of tailor-made installations, capable of adapting to temporary campaigns or more permanent concepts, without sacrificing elegance or brand identity.
