Architectural design project that provides an intimate filter that protects from direct views from the public space.

Designed by Archikubik, the 11-story building is located in Montpellier’s new Port Marianne Rive Gauche district. It features 251 rooms, 5,400 square feet of common spaces and a rooftop garden terrace. Art and culture are an integral part of the architecture with the Wall of Opportunities, an artistic support in connection with the city’s artists.

ANEMONE is inspired by the symbiosis that sea anemones develop with other organisms. The anemones and their hosts live in direct contact with each other and benefit from each other. This same relationship is generated between the building, its students, and the new public space of the avenue, the city and the sea, present on the horizon from the rooftop.

The project promotes “living well together” with innovative uses, quality spaces and the regular organization of coexistence activities to promote the economic, social and environmental revitalization and renewal of the neighborhood.

Double skin facade

In order to avoid the carbon footprint generated during the construction of massive cladding, the entire building is wrapped with a double skin of aluminum chains. This metallic surface is inspired by the traditional sun and insect protection curtains that were originally produced by Kriskadecor before entering the design and architecture sector.

In ANÉMONE, while filtering sunlight, the chain links attenuate the noise of the highway and provide an intimate filter that protects from direct views from the public space. They also create a light veil that dematerializes the building, allowing subtle variations of light thanks to their slight movement and the delicate, sparkling brilliant finish of some of them. Little matter, light, vibrant and sensitive, which turns a building with a strong volumetry into a dematerialized cloud of water, of the sea.

The KDO Fixed System

Kriskadecor’s exterior cladding combines design and functionality. Thanks to the versatility and lightness of aluminum chain links, large surfaces can be covered with infinite creative possibilities, providing color, texture and presence with a system that allows the reproduction of patterns, logos and even images thanks to in-house technology and a dynamic palette of RAL colors tested under solar exposure.
