Kinetic project by Kriskadecor with aluminum chains at the entrance of Marina Port Vell during the celebration of the 37th America's Cup.
Kriskadecor’s creative team has designed Barlovento, an immersive sea-inspired experience created with anodized aluminum chains to welcome residents and visitors to Barcelona’s Marina Port Vell during the 37th America’s Cup.
This installation, composed of 196,980 meticulously assembled chain links, gives shape to wavy veils with a subtle gradient of colors that evoke the white trails left by boats as they sail. Silver triangular shapes emerge like sails among the waves, alluding to the excitement of regattas. The aluminum chains offer not only an iconic entrance, but also a dynamic view that comes to life through movement and the play of colors that change with the light of day.

To faithfully capture the maritime tones and movements that characterize a sailing event, five colors from Kriskadecor’s standard palette have been used. Satin cobalt has been used to represent the waves of the sea; satin silver for the sails; and a combination of bright silver with subtle hints of turquoise and bright emerald to evoke the white wake the boats leave in their wake.
In addition, as an affectionate nod to the past, an enthusiastic “HOLA” has been woven into the curtains, evoking the iconic greeting with which Barcelona welcomed the world during the 1992 Olympic Games.

Finally, to achieve the effect of undulating movement in the chains, a ring has been incorporated at the bottom, allowing them all to move in unison with the gentle breeze of the Barcelona coast.
