Aluminum chain project inspired by the essential character of Mexican street markets

Softroom Architects was commissioned to design the third location of the award-winning Wahaca restaurant, located in a very competitive area of London. It did so by combining the essential character of Mexico’s street markets with an honest and natural approach to materials.

The project incorporates an eye-catching installation of small anodized aluminum links from Kriskadecor, with striking design by BuroCreative and artwork by street artists Nigel Dunkley and Lachlan Thom.

Working closely with Softroom, BuroCreative designed two 50-foot chain curtains made up of more than 400,000 colorful links. The result? Diners see what’s happening on the other side and, if they step back, can enjoy two spectacular decorative murals.
