Kriskadecor ceiling project that evokes the sensation of water.
Australian designer Michelle Taylor (MTRDC) has developed a striking space in the lobby of Southampton’s Westquay Watermark shopping center, establishing a connection between the waterfront that once bathed its current location. In doing so, Taylor pays homage to this historic line of the city.
This theme is translated within the Westquay by suspending dramatic layers of overlapping waves from the ceiling created with Kriskadecor material to evoke the feeling of water. These small anodized aluminum chain links are perfect as they allow you to create designs with layered elements to provide color, texture and movement to the project.
As visitors move through the lobby, they discover transparent veils that reinforce the smooth-flowing architectural forms that dissipate to mimic the exterior paving design. Kriskadecor’s material allows sensations to be recreated along the ceiling, elegantly emphasizing these volumes.
For this installation, more than 8,611 square feet of chains were used in 4 different colors: gold, green, lime and black. The idea was to recreate the effect of the natural contours of rippling pools of water. In addition, the rails were custom curved to create this fluid and harmonious structure.
