To mark its centenary, Kriskadecor-Sans Amill has launched “100 Years of Inspiring Emotions,” a pop-up exhibition that transforms various iconic spaces in Montblanc through projects created by design and architecture schools.
The installation “Pòrtic,” located at the Sant Miquel Square, is one of the art installations that make up this urban art trail. The project was developed by fourth-year students on the BA in Interior Design at the Ondara School of Art, ESDAPC, as part of the Temporary Installations elective, under the supervision of Gemma Casteràs and David García.
A space to pass through, explore and experience
Traditionally, a portico is a transitional space. A place that connects two realms and invites people to cross a threshold. This installation reinterprets that concept through a composition of intersecting and overlapping aluminium chain planes, creating an open and dynamic route through the space.
The proposal is structured around a series of diagonals that organise the space and generate a sequence of shifting perspectives. As visitors move through the installation, the planes transform visually, revealing new relationships between transparency, depth and volume. Each step offers a different reading of the piece.
Arranged as lightweight, permeable surfaces, the chains define the space without enclosing it, allowing the eye to pass through the installation while keeping the surrounding environment as part of the experience. This creates an immersive atmosphere in which the space is revealed gradually through movement and discovery.
The palette of reds, coppers, oranges and browns brings warmth to the composition and enhances the sense of depth created by the overlapping layers. Light interacts with the chains to produce reflections, nuances and transparencies that evolve throughout the day, constantly transforming the perception of the installation.
More than a static structure, “Pòrtic” is conceived as a spatial experience. A place to walk through, observe and temporarily inhabit, where material, light and movement come together to create a new way of engaging with space.

The installation is part of a tour that winds through various spaces in Montblanc as part of the exhibition “100 Years of Inspiring Emotions.”
You can also visit “Làmpada” in Sant Jordi Arch and see four reproductions of drawings created by elementary school students from two schools in Montblanc, , which are on display at “Fet a la Conca”, a local shop showcasing regional products.
And this is just the beginning. Starting in September, the tour will expand to include four new temporary installations that will continue to transform different parts of the town through the use of aluminium chains.
